Hyperplasia of the adrenal medulla in hypertension of children.

چکیده
Persistently high blood pressure is rare in childhood and warrants detailed investigation. Reviews on this subject by McCrory and Nash (1952) and Daeschner and Dodge (1959) have included extensive discussion of hormonal factors and adrenal tumours, but they make no mention of adrenal medullary hyperplasia. Adrenal medullary hyperplasia was found on histological examination in two children with hypertension. In the absence of a definitive medullary tumour and with negative tests for phaeochromocytoma, hyperplasia may play an important role in the production of the hyperpiesia. The study of these two cases, and of one additional unproven case, forms the basis of this paper. In one of these cases, G.P., microdissection techniques were used to study the nephron morphology and special histological techniques to study the juxtaglomerular body in an attempt to locate the site or origin of the renal pressor substance. گزارش یک مورد هیپرآلدوسترونیسم به علت Aldosteronoma
Primary hyperaldosteronism is one of the few causes of hypertension that can be cured by surgery. Primary hyperaldosteronism is caused by adrenocortical adenoma or hyperplasia. It is important to differentiate between adrenal adenoma and hyperplasia because the preferred treatments are different. In all patients with new-onest or worsening hypertension the primary hyperaldosteronism should be c...
متن کاملThe Nature and Significance of Changes in Adrenal Cytology, Weight, and Cortical/medullary Ratio in Experimental Renal Hypertension and Clinical Hypertension
There is a direct proportionality between the degree of adrenal and that of cardiac enlargement in experimental renal hypertension. This is evidence for the participation of the adrenal to an extent dependent on the severity of the hypertension as reflected in the degree of cardiac hypertrophy. The greater part of the weight increase of the adrenal is due to growth of the cortex. However, the r...
متن کاملConsiderations of the renin-angiotensin aldosterone system in the pathogenesis of hypertension in infancy.
Studies with school aged children of several communities of the United States have indicated that between one and two percent of them should be considered hypertensive. These findings contradict previous statements of a very rare incidence of hypertension in childhood. Some studies show that children of Black and Hispanic American ancestry, especially females, have a higher incidence of hyperte...

In this study the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of congenital adrenal hyperplasia were evaluated prospectively in 47 patients admitted in Imam Reza Hospital in Mashhad during a 4 year period. 21-hydroxylase deficiency was present in 42 patients (89.3%), the simple virilizing form in 6 and the salt-losing form in 36 of them. 11b hydroxylase deficiency was present in 5 patient...
متن کاملSeventeen Alpha-Hydroxylase Deficiency Associated with Absent Gonads and Myelolipoma: A Case Report and Review of Literature
Congenital adrenal hyperplasia comprises a group of disorders resulting from defects in enzymes required for the synthesis of cortisol. The clinical presentation depends on the specific enzyme defect. We report a rare case of congenital adrenal hyperplasia due to 17 alpha-hydroxylase deficiency. A 26-year-old female patient referred with hypertension and hypokalemia. She also had primary amenor...
